Why, in the name of everything good, can’t I quit hearing this dang song over and over?
I am absolutely no expert on neurology; heck, I had to check the spelling of that word twice before I wrote it. I will not opine on the psychology of causation, nor will I explore the various methods of cesseson in kind.
Earworms are generally regarded as torture. Hearing the same thing on repeat while your brain struggles to navigate the day can be excruciating. It feels like some evil force has taken over just to make life a bit more difficult.
They say it conjures itself from triggered memories. I agree. I can see that. I understand that much the same way I understand spontaneous humor.
One word in a conversation creates an open gap between my brain and my mouth. It is rare that the part of my brain that blocks thoughts before they leave catches such a quick utterance. That blocking mechanism either arrives too late to stop it, or it gets there and decides to let it go; that crap is funny. Continued
